Video Advertising On YouTube

If you are a client of Big Corner Creative you may have heard about advertising on YouTube. If you’re still unsure of it, hopefully this blog will give you a better understanding of its importance!

How Big is YouTube?

YouTube is the second largest search platform, only after Google search, and if you’ve been on YouTube at all in the last few years, you’ve probably noticed the ads that often pop up before a video. 1.5 billion users log into YouTube every month and 1 billion hours of videos are watched every day. With their continuous growth, those numbers are expected to keep rising. See where we’re going here? After seeing these numbers it isn’t hard to understand why you should be advertising on YouTube, if you aren’t already!

What Are TrueView YouTube Ads?

There are several types of YouTube ads, but the best way to build and drive brand engagement is through TrueView ads. For those businesses who use TrueView ads, it’s not uncommon to see their other YouTube content engagement increase by as much as 500%. That number seems almost unbelievable, but it’s true! You see, with TrueView ads, users are able to opt into different types of ad content. Users choose what kind of ads they want to see. On top of that, you only pay for ads that are played for longer than 30 seconds. It’s easy to see why a high percentage of your budget is spent on users who are most likely to convert. This makes TrueView ads very low risk.

With TrueView ads, seconds matter – particularly the first 5 seconds. After 5 seconds, ads can be skipped by the viewer, so it’s imperative to catch the viewer’s attention in those first seconds. TrueView ads are versatile, though. Whether you are interested in showing product demos, how-to videos, or video testimonies, just to name a few, TrueView allows it! These ads are, for the most part, a win-win, but they aren’t perfect. It’s estimated that about 75% of viewers instinctively click the “skip” button after 5 seconds, even when the ad may be beneficial to the viewer. It’s important to catch the viewers attention within that window. Making the ad NOT feel like an interruption is key. Relatable moments, humor, and entertainment help make viewers forget about the skip button. YouTube has a helpful page here full of examples to help give you inspiration.

TrueView ads have the ability to target a very specific audience. From demographics to in-market audiences (allowing you to find users who are searching for products like yours), to keyword targeting, you truly can reach the people you want to reach. Using Google Adwords to build a YouTube campaign allows for an even greater benefit. The two are interactive with each other which allows you to re-market to new audiences in the Display Network.
