However, we’ve noticed a recurring issue among our clients – their existing Facebook pages are often not optimized to reach their full potential. While setting up a basic page is simple, there are additional necessary steps to take, especially if you plan to collaborate with a marketing agency or want to have multiple page administrators with varying access levels.

So, how do you know if your page is set up correctly? The short answer: your business Facebook page should be owned by a Business Manager Account that has multiple administrators on it.

Follow these steps to confirm if your Facebook page is set up correctly:

For starters – do you have a Facebook business page?

Follow the steps in this helpful video.

If you already have a Facebook page – determine who owns the page.

To find this information switch your personal profile to your business page profile on the top right of your page. Go to settings – new page experience.

In this step, your page ownership can look two different ways.

    1. If a Business Manager Account has claimed ownership of the page. Your new page experience may look something like this:

      • If you have access to this Business Manager Account – yay! Now make sure multiple people have the highest admin access to this account. As to not leave the full control of the Business Manager Account up to a single person.
      • If you do not have access to the account, you must be given access to it. The best plan of action is to determine who created the Business Manager Account and contact them directly to add you to the account.
      • If you do not have access to the Business Account and you cannot contact the original owner of the account contact Facebook support.
    2. If an individual person owns the page:

    • If you’re the owner (NOT the admin) of the page – good news! That makes this process super easy! The ownership of the page needs to be changed from an individual person to a Business Manager Account.
    • If you do not know who the individual is, or you cannot contact them contact Facebook support.

If you are the individual owner of the business page and have not already – create a Business Manager Account.

So, now you have your business Facebook page that you as an individual own and you have your Business Manager Account. Now you need to transfer ownership of the Facebook page from an individual person to the Business Manager Account.

The reason for doing this is to avoid having one single individual in control of a Facebook page. What happens if that person is no longer with the company? We see this issue all the time, which is why we needed to make this blog post!

A Business Manager Account makes it easy to control having multiple admins that have a range of page access, and you can manage all of your assets in one place, (Instagram, ad accounts). It also is the only way to have a marketing agency partnership manage your page or run Facebook ads.
